Invincibelle Lace Smooth Hydrangea is a variety of the hydrangea that has smooth leaves in contrast to the deeply veined, serrated and often deeply lobed leaves of other varieties. Sporting lacy panicles of purple and white florets held suspended on ruby red stems, you will not find a more graceful hydrangea for your home landscape. This flower type is more typical of the lace cap variety of hydrangeas in contrast to the mop head varieties. These beautiful deciduous shrubs make a great addition to an informal garden, border, or as a specimen or foundation for your landscape and prefer a full sun location with a little afternoon shade in extreme heat regions.

Native to Asia and the Americas, they have a wide range of hardiness, Zones 3a to 8a, in which they will flourish. These are not the variety of hydrangea that are hyper accumulative to aluminum ions in the soil, so you will not be able to affect the flower color by manipulating the soil acidity. They attract pollinators, so bees, butterflies and hummingbirds will appreciate you for including this versatile plant in your landscape. A favorite of florists for their large flower heads, hydrangea make wonderful cut flowers. They also make an attractive dried flower for your arrangements, so bring them indoors in this form or leave them in your winter garden to appreciate the tawny brown texture of their spent heads.

Invincibelle Lace Hydrangea Care

Hydrangeas prefer a moist, rich well drained soil and they thrive in full sun or sun with some afternoon shade. Planting is best done in the spring or the fall. Dig a hole that is wider than the root ball and amend the native soil with some well composted material or peat moss to help retain moisture. Water deeply after planting and about 2-3 times a week until they are established and begin to put out new growth. Then water weekly, preferably in the morning so that the leaves have time to dry off in the sun, reducing chances of any disease forming. Hydrangea are shallow rooted so an application of shredded bark mulch applied around the shrub will help retain moisture for the delicate roots, and aged manure or well composted organic material may be all you need for fertilization. Hydrangea arborescens is not a fussy pH variety, they tolerate an acidic or neutral soil.

If you are going to prune your hydrangeas, prune in the early spring before the plant breaks dormancy as this shrub produces flowers off of new wood. If you are in a harsh winter region and your plant dies back to the ground, prune it down all the way and it will sprout new growth in the spring. Remove any dead wood to prepare for fresh new wood. Apply several inches of mulch around the base of your shrub in late fall once the plant has gone dormant to protect it from the extremes of winter temperatures.

Invincibelle Lace Hydrangea Spacing

This is a rounded compact shrub that grows up to 60 inches tall and 60 inches wide, so space it 48 to 60 inches apart if it is not being utilized as a stand alone specimen shrub. These shrubs look beautiful when massed out as a border, on a bright woodland edge to naturalize between your sun and shade areas and as foundation or specimen plants. They can also be used as container plants for your patio. Fertilize and water container plants more frequently and choose a wide planter that will keep your shrub from blowing over in the wind.

We encourage all plant lovers to purchase the Plant Addicts Warranty, whether you're a new gardener or an expert. There are many variables outside of anyone's control that can cause a plant to die. Guarantee and Warranty

Plant Shipping

Below are some factors we consider when determining when to ship the plants depending on the timing of the order.

Winter to Early Spring

We ship only when it's warm enough to plant in your growing zone.
Sometimes plants aren't completely ready to sell and ship in early spring. We will wait until the plants are ready before shipping so you don't get a subpar product.
For Southern plants we will be able to ship much earlier than plants coming from our northern nursery.

Summer

If there is extreme heat we may delay shipping for a week or several weeks.
We review what areas the plants are traveling through as well as your location.

Fall into Winter

We’ll ship plants out all the way up to the end of the fall planting season!

Winter

Get your order in early to reserve your plants for Spring planting!

Once your plant is shipped you’ll receive an automated email with tracking information.
