Growing Zones
With a neat mound habit, Bloomerang Showmound™ Lilac (Syringa x pubescens ‘SMNSPWF’) lights up gardens with frothy white flower clusters from late spring into early fall. Each cluster carries a sweet aroma that announces each bloom cycle. Reaching just 1.5 to 3 feet tall and 2 to 3 feet wide, it stays compact enough for patio corners yet impresses in larger borders, too. In our experience, its continuous blooms and tidy shape make it a rewarding choice for any sun-drenched planting scheme.
This dwarf shrub is known for disease-resistant foliage that holds up against summer rains, along with excellent cold hardiness down to USDA zone 3. Its re-blooming cycle lets you enjoy fragrant flowers after a brief rest following the first spring display, continuing their showy presence into late summer and early autumn. Deer typically avoid its leaves, and pollinators often pay friendly visits. Plant it in mass groupings, line a walkway with its crisp white color, or use it to create a charming low hedge.
Bloomerang Showmound™ Lilac Care
Give this lilac a spot in full sun for at least six hours each day and provide well-draining soil, preferably with a neutral to slightly alkaline pH. Water regularly during the initial growing season, then adjust to a moderate schedule once it’s established. Light fertilizing in early spring and again after the first bloom period can fuel its second flush of flowers. Keep an eye out for soggy ground since excess moisture can hinder healthy root development.
Once the first bloom display fades, you may trim off spent flower heads to promote more blooms in the second cycle, although trimming delays the rebloom. Avoid pruning too late in the season, since it can interfere with the next spring’s bud set. Container-grown plants require good-quality potting mix and consistent moisture, especially in warmer regions. Consider adding mulch around the base of landscape plants in colder areas to protect young roots through winter.
Bloomerang Showmound™ Lilac Spacing
Allow approximately 2 to 3 feet between plants when forming rows or mass plantings, giving each lilac room to maintain its dense silhouette. If you plan to use containers, choose one at least 14 inches wide to accommodate proper root growth.
