Carolina Sapphire Arizona Cypress (Cupressus arizonica var. glabra 'Carolina Sapphire') is a fast-growing evergreen tree prized for its striking blue-green to silvery foliage and elegant pyramidal shape. This conifer is a favorite for home landscapes because it’s not only beautiful but also highly practical. Whether you need a stunning specimen tree, a long-lasting privacy screen, or a hardy windbreak, the Carolina Sapphire Arizona Cypress delivers year after year.
The foliage is soft, aromatic, and vibrant, creating a brilliant contrast against the tree’s reddish-brown, exfoliating bark. Unlike many evergreens, this variety thrives in hot, dry conditions where other trees may struggle. It is naturally drought-tolerant, deer-resistant, and disease-resistant, making it a low-maintenance choice for both new and experienced gardeners.
Carolina Sapphire Arizona Cypress Care
This cypress grows best in full sun and well-drained soil. It adapts well to sandy or slightly acidic soils and requires very little water once established. Fertilize in early spring and again in mid-fall with a slow-release fertilizer to encourage strong growth and vibrant color. Minimal pruning is needed, but light shaping can be done in spring if desired.
Carolina Sapphire Arizona Cypress Growth & Spacing
Expect this cypress to grow quickly, often reaching 30–40 feet tall and 20 feet wide at maturity. For hedges, windbreaks, or privacy screens, plant 6–7 feet apart on center to create a dense, living barrier. As a single specimen tree, it stands out beautifully in large gardens and open landscapes.
