Feature
The Donna Bromeliad is eye-catching due to its boldly colored foliage. The long, narrow leaves grow in a rosette shape and are a deep pink near the center. The outer leaves are a dark green and provide a nice contrast to the unexpected pop of color. This pet-safe tropical houseplant is easy to maintain and tolerates a slight degree of neglect. The Donna Bromeliad is about 10 inches tall, making it ideal for a desk or end table. With proper care and enough time, Bromelias bloom, and after the flowers fade, the plant will push out pups or new plants.
Best Locations For Growing Donna Bromeliad
The best location for Bromeliad plants will have high humidity, either natural or supplied through the use of a humidifier or a pebble tray with water. The humid air helps the foliage stay hydrated and looking its best. This plant can call any room home in humid climates, but in dry regions, bathrooms and kitchens are good locations. A shaded porch is another option, but the Donna Bromeliad can only stay outdoors when the overnight temperature is well above 50 degrees.
Donna Bromeliad Sunlight Requirements
Bromeliads are tropical plants, and in nature, they grow on the ground where the tree canopy shades them. This plant prefers medium to low indirect sunlight. Bright sunlight can be intense and may dry out the lovely foliage. Place the Donna Bromeliad on the opposite side of the room from a south-facing window or closer to windows facing other directions.
Donna Bromeliad Care
Bromeliads bloom, and while the foliage is lovely, the showy flower spikes are also stunning. The flowers typically last for several months. After the flowers fade, the plant will ordinarily self-propagate, and small plants will appear around the main plant.
Watering Donna Bromeliad
Water the Donna Bromeliad when the top couple inches of soil are dry. Bromeliads are unique plants that feature a central cup at the center. Plants in nature use this cup to collect rainwater. Water the Donna Bromeliad by filling the cup no more than halfway. Let the cup dry out occasionally to prevent rot, and periodically rinse the cup to remove mineral buildup.
Feeding Donna Bromeliad
Fertilize Donna Bromeliad plants when they are actively growing. Feed the plant using a water-soluble fertilizer every couple of weeks.
