Endless Summer® BloomStruck Hydrangea (Hydrangea macrophylla 'PIIHM-II') is a reblooming bigleaf hydrangea that produces a season-long parade of large mophead flowers in jewel-toned pinks, purples, and blues. BloomStruck is bred for exceptional garden performance — it sets sturdy stems that hold heavy flower heads, tolerates heat better than many bigleaf hydrangeas, and reblooms on both old and new wood so you get continuous color from late spring through fall.
Bloom color can be influenced by soil pH (acid soils favor blue tones; neutral to alkaline soils shift blooms to pink/purple), giving gardeners control over palette.
BloomStruck Hydrangea Care
Plant BloomStruck in evenly moist, well-drained soil amended with organic matter. It performs best in full to part sun (morning sun with afternoon shade is ideal in hot climates). Water consistently — especially during the first year and in heat — and apply a 2–3" layer of organic mulch to keep roots cool and retain moisture. This variety resists common issues better than many bigleaf hydrangeas, but good air circulation and proper siting still improve overall health.
Prune only to remove dead wood or to shape after spring flowering if desired; because BloomStruck blooms on both old and new wood, it will still rebloom later in the season.
BloomStruck Growth & Spacing
BloomStruck typically matures to about 3–4 feet tall and 4–5 feet wide, forming a dense, mounded shrub ideal for foundation plantings, mixed borders, containers, or specimen use. Space plants about 4–5 feet apart to allow room for mature growth and air circulation. In colder zones where winter dieback of old wood can occur, BloomStruck reliably blooms on new growth, giving dependable late-season flowers.
Why Grow BloomStruck Hydrangea?
-
Reblooming performance — flowers on old and new wood for extended seasonal color.
-
Large, showy mophead blooms — 3.5–5" flower heads make dramatic focal points in the garden.
-
Color control — soil pH management lets you influence pink, purple, or blue tones.
-
Stronger stems & improved heat tolerance — holds heavy blooms upright and performs well in warmer sites relative to many bigleaf types.
-
Versatile planting uses — best as specimen planting, massed border, or in containers for patios and entryways.
