Jade Snake Plant is a dwarf variety that is exceptionally slow growing and perfect for small spaces in an apartment or office. Snake Plants have many other common names: viper’s hemp string, mother-in-law tongue, or Jade Bird’s Nest. Still, they are all scientifically named Dracaena trifasciata, formerly known as Sansevieria trifasciata. All varieties of Snake Plant originated in the tropical climates of West Africa and require minimal maintenance.

Best Locations For Growing Jade Snake Plant

Jade Snake Plant can be placed in just about any location of the house and will grow well. The dwarf size of Jade makes for a lovely accent on a bookshelf, on a desk, or as a grouping in the kitchen or bathroom. Jade Snake Plant leaves are toxic and should be kept away from pets.

Jade Snake Plant Sunlight Requirements

Any light level will suit this easy-to-grow plant. Low light will keep the plant growing slowly. Brighter light will speed growth, while bright direct light will bleach or burn the leaves.

Jade Snake Plant Care

Jade Snake Plant needs fast-draining soil to protect the roots from rotting. Cactus and succulent potting soil works well for snake plants. Make sure the pot has excellent drainage. Snake plants can be propagated easily from leaf cuttings. Carefully cut a leaf off at the base of the plant and place it in a glass of water so just the cut end is submerged. Change the water every two weeks until new roots form. Pot the new plantlet in a small container with cactus potting soil.

Watering Jade Snake Plant

Snake Plants are famous for how they can tolerate drought conditions. This is one reason the          Jade Snake plant is suitable for a first-time houseplant gardener. Let the top 2-3 inches of soil dry thoroughly between waterings. Let the excess water drain fully and empty the saucer or cache pot, so the container does not sit in water. Watering every 1-2 weeks is typical, depending on the humidity level in your home or office.

Feeding Jade Snake Plant

Use a fertilizer formulated for cacti and succulents. These formulas will support strong root growth instead of heavy foliage growth. Only feed during the spring and summer during active growth. There is no need to fertilize during winter.

Guarantee and Warranty

Plant Shipping

Below are some factors we consider when determining when to ship the plants depending on the timing of the order.

Winter to Early Spring

We ship only when it's warm enough to plant in your growing zone.
Sometimes plants aren't completely ready to sell and ship in early spring. We will wait until the plants are ready before shipping so you don't get a subpar product.
For Southern plants we will be able to ship much earlier than plants coming from our northern nursery.

Summer

If there is extreme heat we may delay shipping for a week or several weeks.
We review what areas the plants are traveling through as well as your location.

Fall into Winter

We’ll ship plants out all the way up to the end of the fall planting season!

Winter

Get your order in early to reserve your plants for Spring planting!

Once your plant is shipped you’ll receive an automated email with tracking information.
