Feature
Jade Succulent is a low-maintenance evergreen shrub originating from South Africa that has an affinity for bright, indirect light but an aversion to overwatering. With crimson circles marking the tips of green spindle-shaped leaves, these succulent shrubs yield petite white, star-shaped flowers tinged with pink. Since this house plant can store a lot of water within its leaves, it is drought tolerant. This verdant star is the perfect choice for a beginning gardener or someone who doesn’t have a lot of free time to spare.
Best Locations For Jade Succulent
Jade Succulent will thrive in any room that has moderate temperatures and humidity; however, due to this plant being toxic to people and pets, children’s rooms should be avoided.
Jade Succulent Sunlight Requirements
Jade Succulent thrives in bright light. Direct light, however, can burn Jade Succulent’s leaves, turning them a reddish color. To avoid this, place this gem in indirect light. A good location is a south-facing window, but place this house plant a few feet away from direct light. Six hours of light per day is optimal for Jade Succulent to flourish.
Jade Succulent Care
Jade Succulent prefers temperatures ranging from 65° to 75°, humidity varying from 40% to 50%, and a neutral to slightly acidic, well-draining soil. Since Jade Succulent is prone to root rot, use a cactus mix or indoor potting soil amended with perlite. A pot size of 6-8 inches will provide the perfect home for this house plant.
To encourage well-balanced, bushier growth, prune Jade Succulent at least once per year. If you have fallen in love with this plant and eagerly want to see it multiply, propagation is relatively easy with a pair of clippers. Take three-inch cuttings and store them in a dry location with bright, indirect light. Wait about 4 or 5 days for the stems to heal. Next? Place each of the cuttings in slightly moistened soil in bright, indirect light. Wait one to two weeks for the roots to grow.
Finally, if repotting Jade Succulent, provide smaller plants with a new pot every two to three years, while larger plants require repotting every four to five years with the new pot being about an inch larger than the plant’s diameter.
Watering Jade Succulent
To avoid fungal disease, check the moisture levels in the soil before watering. Simply stick your fingers down into the soil about two inches. If the soil is dry, then, water. If not, then wait a day or two until you can do another moisture check.
Feeding Jade Succulent
Except during the winter, feed this gorgeous green companion with a balanced fertilizer at half strength biweekly.
