Feature
Like other members of the Monstera family, the Peru Monstera is all about foliage. Monstera kartenianum has thick, non-fenestrated leaves with deep ridges. The highly textured foliage is a deep dark green. This climbing plant will appreciate a moss pole or something its reaching vines can use to explore. Alternatively, feature the Peru Monstera on a high shelf or in a plant hanger, and let the leafy vines cascade.
Best Locations For Growing Peru Monstera
Display the Peru Monstera in a sunny area of your home with increased humidity. This leafy beauty will do well in a bathroom or kitchen or any room with extra moisture in the air. Choose a spot with space for the vines to trail or climb so that the greenery can be fully displayed.
Peru Monstera Sunlight Requirements
The Peru Monstera loves bright, indirect light similar to what it would receive in the understory of a rainforest. The thick foliage burns easily, so keep this plant away from direct sunlight.
Peru Monstera Care
This low-maintenance houseplant will let you know if it is not receiving proper care. Monitor the leaves for signs of sunburn, indicating too much light; yellowing of the leaves indicates insufficient light, and drooping alerts you to improper watering. Vines that outgrow your space can be trimmed and propagated, creating new plants.
Watering Peru Monstera
Unlike other Monstera cultivars, the Peru Monstera should be allowed to dry out before watering. The plant stores water in its thick leaves, making it drought tolerant. When watering, get the soil completely wet, and empty the cover pot or tray of excess water. This plant is susceptible to root rot, so do not leave it sitting in water. As a tropical plant, this stunner likes high humidity. Use a humidifier or pebble tray to keep the dark-green foliage lush and vibrant.
Feeding Peru Monstera
Feed this plant to keep it healthy and growing. Use a balanced, water-soluble fertilizer once each month when the plant is actively growing. Do not feed plants during the fall and winter when they are dormant.
