Feature
Silver vase Bromeliad is a beautiful flowering plant that is commonly referred to as the “Urn Plant”. Although the plant is picky about its watering requirements, it is a splendid houseplant with funnel-shaped rosettes of gray leaves. It produces a stunning, central terminal spike of purple flowers during late fall or early winter. This plant begins with solid-green leaves that develop grayish-green striation as it matures. It is native to Brazil.
Best Locations For Growing Silver Vase Bromeliad
The best location for this plant is indoors near an eastern- or western-facing window. Position the Silver Vase Bromeliad a couple feet away from the window, or light source. It can be placed outside as long as temperatures don't fall below freezing. It is hardy in zones 8-11.
Silver Vase Sunlight Requirements
Avoid deep shade or direct bright sunlight with this bromeliad. This plant prefers indirect light to prevent foliage burn. An east- or west-facing window should provide excellent light for growth and blooming.
Silver Vase Bromeliad Care
Use Orchid potting mix or equal parts fir bark, peat moss, and sharp sand or perlite. This plant can be propagated by separating the “pups” after it has completed its blooming cycle. It prefers a temperature range of 65-75 degrees Fahrenheit while flowering and up to 85 degrees during the growing season.
Watering Silver Vase Bromeliad
Replenish the water in the central tube or vase of the plant every 10-14 days, but check the plant’s moisture level every few days until you get a sense of its watering needs. Silver Vase Bromeliad prefers moderate humidity. During the summer, you can lightly water the soil once per week. Never allow the roots to dry out during any season.
Feeding Silver Vase Bromeliad
During the spring and summer, feed the Silver Vase Bromeliad monthly with a foliar spray and add a diluted fertilizer to the soil and central tube of the plant. During the winter, reduce fertilizing to every other month.
