String Bean Hoya is a lovely, flowering tropical with thick, fleshy leaves resembling string beans. Hoya shepherdii features highly scented clusters of long-lasting flowers during the late spring and summer. This Hoya has a compact growth habit and remains full and bushy in a hanging basket.
Best Locations For Growing String Bean Hoya
Hoyas grow best in a brightly lit spot with high humidity. A bathroom or kitchen can be ideal if the light level is high. Artificial lights and portable humidifiers can help your Hoya adapt to indoor conditions. String Bean enjoys growing outdoors in the summer and being indoors for the winter. All parts of Hoya are toxic and must be kept away from children and pets.
String Bean Hoya Sunlight Requirements
Indirect bright light will help String Bean produce flowers and thrive. Lower light levels can be tolerated if the plant is given time to acclimate. Flowering may be less or none in lower light, and the overall growth will slow. Place the baskets or pot near a southern-exposure or east- or west-facing window.
String Bean Hoya Care
Hoya likes soil that is free draining, rich, and loose in texture. Adding fine Orchid bark or extra perlite to all-purpose potting soil works great. Repotting is not needed regularly. String Bean Hoya will bloom the best if it is slightly rootbound. Keep Hoya out of cold drafts from air conditioners or doors and windows.
Watering String Bean Hoya
Hoya prefers consistent moisture and well-drained soil. Watering pots from the bottom up ensures that all of the soil is evenly moist. Fill a sink or bucket with 3-4 inches of room-temperature water. Place the pot in this water for up to an hour until the soil will not take up any more moisture. Allow the pot to drain fully before putting it back in position. Daily misting with distilled water will boost the humidity around Hoyas leaves and keep your plant healthy.
Feeding String Bean Hoya
Fertilizing is only needed during active growth in the spring and summer. Use a liquid fertilizer made for Orchids or Succulents and dilute to one-half the recommended dosage.
