Featuring brushstroke mauve-pink flowers, the Sun Parasol® Mauvelous Mandevilla (Mandevilla hybrid) adds a tropical touch to patios and gardens. This compact variety grows upright, reaching one to two feet, and displays a well-branched structure that offers a lush look from spring through summer. Each flower has a subtle infusion of pink that catches the eye in various lighting conditions. Its reliable bloom schedule helps create a cheerful atmosphere around outdoor living spaces.
Originating from warmer regions, this evergreen choice offers moderate heat tolerance and modest water needs, which suits both novice and seasoned gardeners. Many appreciate its low-maintenance nature and deer-resistant foliage, which adds value in areas frequented by wildlife. Uses range from covering a trellis for vertical color to filling a hanging basket with cascading blooms. This plant also works well as a striking accent in border plantings or mass groupings.
Sun Parasol® Mauvelous Mandevilla Care
Plant it in a rich, well-drained medium with a pH range near 5.5 to 6.0 to promote healthy development. Locate it in full to partial sun, giving the plant ample light for steady flower production. Water regularly but let the top layer of soil dry between sessions, and apply a balanced fertilizer every few weeks during active growth. In our experience, consistent feeding leads to more abundant displays of color.
Pinching back the new tips while the plant is young encourages tighter branching and a bushier silhouette. Removing faded flowers can help direct the plant’s energy back into producing fresh buds. If you plan to grow it in containers, select a sturdy support structure such as a small trellis to guide upward growth, or let it drape elegantly from a hanging planter. Before winter in cooler zones, relocate potted plants indoors and water sparingly to prevent root issues. In warm regions, clip away any leggy stems at season’s end to maintain shape and encourage future blooms.
Sun Parasol® Mauvelous Mandevilla Spacing
Provide at least 24 inches of space between individual plants in borders or mass plantings to allow adequate airflow. For a single specimen, a bit more distance highlights the plant's unique form. If you’re creating a grouping, slightly closer spacing can produce a fuller effect. A container measuring at least 14 inches across accommodates Mauvelous Mandevilla's root system.
