Tineke Rubber Tree, or Ficus elastica ‘Tineke’, is a stunning variegated variety of rubber trees on the market. It has glossy, tri-colored, variegated foliage in green, white, and cream with splashes of pink and burgundy. Its lovely leaves grow to nearly a foot in length and 6 inches wide. Grown in its natural environment, it can exceed heights of over 50 feet tall.
Best Locations For Growing Tineke Rubber Tree
Maintain Tineke in average consistent room temperatures; its ideal native growing temperatures are between 60-95 degrees F. Consider adding a humidifier to increase moisture in the air. Tineka Rubber Tree enjoys bright indirect light. Avoid placing it in cold drafty areas or near heating air vents during winter months.
Tineke Rubber Tree Sunlight Requirements
Place Tineke in a location that has bright indirect light for at least 6 hours per day. Although Tineke Rubber Tree will adjust to lower lighting conditions, it will develop less creamy variegation on its new leaves.
Tineke Rubber Tree Care
Be sure to plant this variegated rubber tree in loose, well-draining, well-aerated soil in a pot with adequate drainage holes. Its large leaves can collect dust, so carefully wiping both sides of the leaves with a damp cloth each month is helpful. Rotating the pot monthly will keep your Tineke Rubber Tree growing in a balanced shape.
Watering Tineke Rubber Tree
Take care not to overwater Tineke Rubber Tree. If the roots sit in water, they can suffer from root rot, and fungus gnats can become an issue. Water your plant when the top inch of soil is dry during the spring and summer growing season, and scale back watering during winter months.
Feeding Tineke Rubber Tree
You can feed your Rubber Tree with a balanced liquid houseplant fertilizer with an NPK ratio of 10-10-10 during the warmer summer months. Apply the feed at half the manufacturer’s recommended strength.
