How about a tasty berry you can't find in the grocery store but can grow in your own yard? Yezberry Maxie Haskap Berry will surprise you with its luscious fruit that tastes like a perfect cross between a blueberry and a raspberry. Even better – the plant is easy to grow and can handle cold down to zone 3 (and heat through zone 7). Deer should ignore Haskap and the shrub reaches 5 to 6 feet tall, so it is a versatile, attractive and productive plant for nearly any landscape.

Yezberry Maxie Haskap Berry leaves drop in winter but new leaves and yellow flowers appear in spring. Haskap can be the first plant to bloom in many spring gardens. By summer, purplish-blue berries appear with no real pruning or fussy care. You can plant Haskap in nearly any type of soil and in full or part sun and still get yummy berries. The soft green leaves fill the shrub in a mounded form, so it is attractive even when not flowering.

Yezberry Maxie Haskap Berry Care

The only thing you need to do is plant two varieties of Yezberry Haskap in your yard for best fruiting (on both plants!) They can be 50 feet apart or less to pollinate one another. The shrub is so pretty that many homeowners choose to plant several as a hedge to ensure plenty of interaction. Yezberry Maxie Haskap needs average watering and no other special attention once it's established. Haskaps need little pruning, but if you want to shape the plants, wait until after you're harvested the fruit.

Yezberry Maxie Haskap Berry Spacing

For a hedge or mass planting of Yezberry Maxie Haskap Berry shrubs, remember to consider their full, mature size of nearly 6 feet high and wide. Space the plants 5 to 6 feet apart from one center to another.

Interesting Facts - Yezberry Japanese haskaps are closely related to best-selling Sugar Mountain Sweet Berry Honeysuckle. However, the Yezberry series was developed from purely Japanese strains of haskap, while the Sugar Mountain series is of Russian heritage.

Other differences: Yezberry haskaps bloom a bit later, so they're a good choice for areas that get frequent spring frosts. Yezberry fruits are plumper and rounder than Sugar Mountain fruits, but both are equally tasty and heavy-bearing when it comes to harvest time.
