Teresa was trained as a Master Gardener in Albuquerque while working as a full-time freelance writer and editor. She combined her love of gardening with her writing and editing skills to write feature articles for magazines, trade journals and websites. In 2013, she started a blog called Gardening in a Drought featuring the challenges of maintaining a large xeric garden, vegetable garden and 4 acres of land in the dry foothills of the Southeastern New Mexico mountains.
In 2016, Teresa received a top writing award from GardenComm (Garden Writers of America) for her blog. She has contributed to gardening product reviews and is the editor of African Violet Magazine for the African Violet Society of America.
In 2020, Gardening in a Drought was moved to Plant Addicts so more gardeners would be able to learn about drought tolerant gardening.
