Bloomify™ Rose Lantana is a tough and dependable bloomer, even in the hottest summer temperatures. The fragrant clusters of bicolored flowers open yellow and age to a deep rose color that remains vibrant regardless of the heat or humidity levels. Beneficial insects, hummingbirds, butterflies, and moths all crave the flowers’ sweet and plentiful nectar produced all season long. Lantana camara ‘UF-1011-2’ is certified to be sterile, meaning less deadheading and more relaxation for gardeners.
Lantana grows best with consistent watering but adapts well to drier soils and low humidity. Seaside gardens with their salty and windy conditions are no challenge for Lantana. Deer and rabbits generally stay clear of the scented foliage and flowers, as do slugs and snails. Add Rose Lantana to a mixed seasonal container as an eye-catching filler plant or use it to edge a walkway or act as a medium-growing ground cover.
Bloomify™ Rose Lantana Care
Lantana will take as much heat and sun as you can give it in your garden. Well-draining soil is also important to prevent Lantana from developing root rot and mildew disease. For containers, select a lightweight potting mix that drains well. Garden-grown plants also require well-draining soil, although virtually any soil texture is acceptable, from heavy clay to lightweight sand.
Fertilize container-grown plants every 2-3 weeks with a diluted liquid feed for flowering plants or a tomato and rose fertilizer. Garden-grown plants will benefit from a slow-release granular fertilizer applied at the time of planting and again 2 months later as a top dressing. Bloomify™ Lantanas do not require deadheading to prevent seed formation. The plants are certified sterile and continue to bloom until the first frost in fall.
Lantana can be overwintered indoors in climates with regular freezes and temperatures below 40 degrees F. Bring the plants indoors well before the nighttime temperatures fall below 50 F (10 C), and place them in a south or southwest-facing window that has direct bright light. Reduce watering to once every 7-10 days and stop fertilizing while the plants are indoors.
Bloomify™ Rose Lantana Spacing
Bloomify™ Rose Lantana develops an attractive mounded shape, approximately 12-14 inches high and 10-12 inches wide. Containers with at least a 12-inch diameter have enough space for 2 plants. Hanging baskets with a 14-inch diameter can hold three plants.
