The Brew-Tea-Ful Plant has lush foliage that ensures a good cup of tea is always at the ready. Also known as Camelia sinensis, this plant has woody, upright stems. New leaves are light green and transition to dark, glossy green. The lance-shaped foliage has finely serrated edges, adding texture to a landscape. White flowers bloom in the fall and attract pollinators. Leaf buds make white tea, while new spring leaves are used to make green tea. Large leaves make excellent oolong or black tea. The leaves can be harvested for tea anytime, depending on the time of year and the desired tea.
Brew-Tea-Ful Plant Care
Full sun is ideal and helps the Brew-Tea-Ful Plant thrive, but intense afternoon sun can damage the leaves and should be avoided. Plant the Brew-Tea-Ful Plant in sandy, rich, loamy, moist, well-drained soil with an acidic to neutral pH. This plant has shallow roots and benefits from a layer of mulch to retain moisture and protect the roots from intense temperatures. Space plants 12 inches apart. Select a planting area away from strong or gusty winds.
Growing Brew-Tea-Ful Plant
This slow-growing plant reaches 10 to 15 inches tall and 10 to 12 inches wide. Plant it outdoors in the spring after there is no longer a risk of frost. The Brew-Tea-Ful Plant grows in zones 7 through 11 as an evergreen. Potted plants can be moved to a protected area during the winter in colder areas.
The Brew-Tea-Ful Plant is an excellent container plant. Grow this leafy beauty in a container at least 12 inches wide with drainage. Place the pot in a sunny spot and water when the soil is dry.
Watering Brew-Tea-Ful Plant
The Brew-Tea-Ful Plant has average water needs and prefers evenly moist soil. Avoid extremely wet or dry conditions. A layer of organic mulch will reduce evaporation and keep the soil damp.
Feeding Brew-Tea-Ful Plant
Routine feedings give the plant the nutrients it needs to thrive and push out new growth. Apply a balanced fertilizer in mid-spring and early summer.
