Growing Zones
lowering from spring until the fall, Delilah™ Bicolor Purple Dianthus will provide an injection of color for months on end. Remaining compact at less than a foot tall, this Dianthus plumarius forms a neat mound of green-silver foliage above which its flowers grow. The blooms of this ‘Garden Pink’ have a spicy scent and are also perfect for using as a cut flower.
Being small, Delilah™ Bicolor Purple Dianthus is made for growing in a container or lining a pathway. Relatively low maintenance, it can also cope with brief dry periods. Native to parts of central and Eastern Europe, this plant is suitable for growing in zones 4 to 9 of the US.
Delilah™ Bicolor Purple Dianthus Care
For the best blooms, you will want to place this Delilah™ Bicolor Purple Dianthus in full or partial sun. It likes well-drained soil that is relatively fertile and either neutral or alkaline. Water it deeply and frequently until established. An application of general fertilizer in spring will encourage reblooming all season long.
Regular deadheading will promote new flower buds to form. When grown in a pot or container, more frequent irrigation will be required than when grown in the ground. Come winter, simply cut the stems to the ground and mulch with organic matter.
Delilah™ Bicolor Purple Dianthus Spacing
The Delilah™ Bicolor Purple Dianthus tends to grow no more than 10 inches tall and 14 inches wide. When growing as a group, space each plant around 12 to 14 inches apart for maximum impact.
