Zinnias are a cheerful garden annual that virtually any gardener can grow. ZAHARA® Zinnias is an improved line with extra large flowers and an overall compact size. Double Raspberry Ripple has gorgeous bicolored petals with deep rose centers and pale pink edging. Pollinators are huge fans of Zinnias and will flock to your garden for weeks at a time. The fully double flowers are 2 ½ inches across, giving them a strong presence in a garden bed or planter. Zinnia marylandica is a cross between Z. augustifolia and Z. violacea, resulting in a sturdy upright plant that is highly resistant to fungal and mildew diseases.
Double Raspberry Ripple Zinnia is a strong bloomer and will add long-lasting color to a mixed seasonal container or a cutting garden. The straight, sturdy stems are perfect for floral bouquets and dried arrangements through the winter months. Zinnias are highly tolerant of drought, windy sites, heat, humidity, and random browsing from deer and rabbits.
Double Zahara™ Raspberry Ripple Zinnia Care
Grow Zinnias in well-draining soil that is moderately rich and moisture retentive. Mulching with organic material such as fine arborist chips or compost will aid in moisture retention while suppressing any annual weed growth. Full to partial sun is important for heavy blooming and to lessen the incidence of mildew and fungal diseases.
Pinching the earliest flowers back helps Zinnias to bush out and eventually produce more flowers. Deadheading will also encourage further flowering as the season progresses. Cut the spent flowers back to a set of leaves to encourage more stem branching. Fertilize with a diluted liquid seaweed or fish emulsion feed every 2-3 weeks for both potted and garden plants.
Container-grown Zinnias require regular watering until the first frost in fall. Allow the top 1-2 inches of potting mix to dry between waterings, keeping in mind that smaller pots dry out faster than large planters. Although Zinnias are considered fully hardy in zones 9-11, they are true annuals and will set seed after one season. In the warmer zones, those seeds are more likely to germinate, providing more plants for the next season.
Double Zahara™ Raspberry Ripple Zinnia Spacing
Even though Raspberry Ripple Zinnia has high resistance to mildew, spacing plants 18 to 20 inches apart will provide plenty of air circulation to ensure healthy growth all season. Container plants will need a pot with at least a 10-inch diameter when grown singly.
