The velvety pink edged burgundy blooms of Everlast™ Pinks bloom in profusion throughout the late spring and summer. The scent is unmistakable and signals the change from spring to summer in the Cottage Garden. This compact perennial is a very vigorous grower that works great as an eye-catching ground cover or added to a mixed container planting. The grayish green foliage is grass-like and remains long after the blooming has stopped. The blooms are long lived as cut flowers.
Beneficial pollinators are drawn in by the dark red colors, while deer are repelled by the strong scent. Everlast™ Pinks are great when used in mass plantings for ground cover. The first flush of blooms ends early in June with a second later round in August. Since this plant is a herbaceous perennial and will die back in the winter completely, it is great planted in an area of early spring blooming bulbs. As the bulbs are finishing, Dianthus starts to grow back.
Everlast™Burgundy Blush Pinks Care
Pinks are very easy-care perennials. Average soil texture and a neutral pH will keep them healthy. Fertilization only needs to be done early in the spring as the new growth greens up. A slow release, balanced fertilizer is recommended. Well drained soil is key. After this plant is established it will tolerate periods of dryness and drought with ease.
The only annual maintenance needed is a quick clean up of old growth to make way for the fresh growth early in the spring. Mulching with organic compost or leaves will help to insulate Pinks for the winter in the lower hardiness zones.
Everlast™Burgundy Blush Pinks Spacing
Everlast™ Pinks are small at a height of 8-10 inches with a width of 12 -15 inches. When planting as a ground cover, space these plants 12 inches, center on center, to allow for quick coverage of the area.
