If you are looking for a plant with summer color that can cope with the heat, the Fine Feathered™ Parrot Coneflower could just be the answer. With its large cones and orange and yellow petals, this echinacea is sure to attract a mass of pollinators. Flowering from midsummer until the fall, this compact perennial is ideal for adding a burst of color to any border or container. Once established, Fine Feathered™ Parrot Coneflower is tough and can cope with the worst of the summer heat.
With a compact habit, this coneflower will remain manageable and peak at around 20 inches high. Once it has got its roots down, this perennial is also drought tolerant and requires little ongoing care. The tall flowers are loved by all sorts of pollinators and are perfect for growing as a cut flower as well. Widely used in prairie-style borders, it looks stunning when planted in drifts and due to its small form, is equally suited to growing in a container.
Fine Feathered™ Parrot Coneflower Care
Fine Feathered™ Parrot Coneflower prefers to be grown in full sun, but can also tolerate some partial shade. Requiring regular watering for its first season, this coneflower can cope with a fair amount of neglect once established. It thrives when grown in free-draining soil; just avoid any boggy or waterlogged soil as it will struggle. Coneflowers do not generally require any fertilizer, although a slow-release feed applied in spring will give them a boost.
To spur on more flowers, regular deadheading is advisable throughout the growing season. Once its growth has died back in winter, the stems can be cut back to the base or left until spring.
Fine Feathered™ Parrot Coneflower Spacing
Over time, Fine Feathered™ Parrot Coneflower can reach a maximum of 18-20 inches high by 14-18 inches wide. Often planted en masse to provide maximum impact, plants can be spaced around 12 to 18 inches apart. If grown in a container, multiple drainage holes and a minimum diameter of 12 inches are a must.
