Firefly Diamond Yarrow will be the gem of your border or summer containers, offering easy-care, long-blooming color to delight you and nourish passing bees and butterflies. The white flowers sparkle day and night in a full sun exposure, and retain their good looks even as they fade, hinting at the fact that they are also excellent cut and dried flowers for arranging and crafting. They bloom all summer long in flat flying-saucer shapes that uniquely set off rounded and spiked flowers, while the lacy green foliage does the same with bolder-leafed companions. They prefer less fertile soil, so the less fussing the better. They are resistant to both deer and rabbits.
Achillea hybrids, the upright plants can reach 40 inches tall and wide, and make a great thriller in a well-drained container, or an all-star border player, especially en masse. Just a few places they would shine are: a cutting/crafting garden, a Moon garden, a pollinator bed, a “hell strip,” or a drought-tolerant garden.
Firefly Diamond Yarrow Care
Yarrows will perform their best in full sun, in average to poor soil. The ideal soil would be acidic to neutral in pH. They are salt-tolerant, so a coastal situation is fine.
The more you cut for bouquets the more flowers you (and the pollinators) will receive. They only ask to be cut back by half after flowering, which will encourage a repeat flush of bloom, and to be divided every three years or so as they grow.
Firefly Diamond Yarrow Spacing
A great spacing for Firefly Diamond is about 34 – 40 inches across in the landscape.
