Growing Zones
By mid-May, Holden's Fuchsia Rhododendron is covered in showy blooms. Pink trumpet-shaped flowers have ruffled edges and subtle yellow markings on the inside of the upper portion of the petal for added dimension. The flowers bloom in clusters, providing an even bigger visual impact. Dark green foliage has a leathery appearance and helps the bright pink flowers stand out. This shrub is a broadleaf evergreen, so the leaves provide color and texture during the winter.
The dense spreading growth habit and a mounded form give this shrub a full and lush appearance. Create a flowering hedge or foundation planting with this Rhododendron. At 4 to 5 feet tall, this shrub can define a border along a deck or outdoor area without overwhelming the space. Add height and springtime color to a mixed bed. Hummingbirds and butterflies frequent the showy flowers. Grow Holden's Fuchsia Rhododendron in zones 5 through 8.
Holden's Fuchsia Rhododendron Care
Plant this Rhododendron in full shade. It prefers fertile, acidic soil that is moist and well drained. Water consistently for the first growing season. Established plants are drought tolerant but need water during a dry period, especially when the buds are forming in later summer. Fertilize Rhododendrons in late winter or early spring. Use a product intended for acid-loving evergreen shrubs.
Rhododendrons set flower buds early, so the ideal time to prune is after the flowers fade but before new buds appear. Remove dead or damaged growth at any time.
Holden's Fuchsia Rhododendron Spacing
Holden's Fuchsia Rhododendron stands 4 to 5 feet tall and spreads 6 to 8 feet wide. Space shrubs 6 feet apart when creating a hedge.
