Catmint is a reliable bloomer for a long season of color. Neptune Catmint is a pint sized version that has flower spikes as tall as the whole plant. No staking needed for this Catmint. The violet-blue flowers attract beneficial pollinators in droves and keep blooming all summer. The minty leaves can even be dried and used as an herbal tea.

Neptune Catmint is the perfect shape and size to edge a perennial border, plant in groups of 3 or 5 more an impactful display in the Cottage Garden or use as an edible ornamental in a Kitchen Garden. Neptune is so versatile that it can be used as either a “thriller” or “filler” in mixed seasonal container plantings.

Neptune Catmint Care

Neptune Catmint will bloom the most in full sun. Early morning or late afternoon shade is fine. Average soil texture and a neutral pH is acceptable for vigorous growth. Catmint tends to be very drought tolerant as it matures. To ensure good establishment, supplemental watering will be needed during the first 2-3 years. Watering with drip irrigation or soaker hoses is preferred to keep the foliage from getting wet. Container grown Catmint will need supplemental watering on a regular basis.

Catmint needs fertilizing once in the early spring as new growth starts. A well balanced, slow release feed will promote and support summer long blooming. Regular deadheading will help prolong the flower display, although a “haircut” shearing in the middle of summer will provide for a bushier plant with more blooms from late summer to the first hard frosts of fall.

Neptune Catmint Spacing

Neptune Catmint is very compact at a mature height and width of 8-12 inches. Neptune should be placed at 10 inches on center when planted in groups. Container planting will allow for a much closer spacing, similar to planting annuals.
