Growing Zones
If you are looking for an addition to your ‘hot’ border, take a look at the New Vintage Red Yarrow. Botanically known as Achillea millefolium 'Balvinred', this yarrow produces a profusion of red blooms all season long. Easy to grow and care for, the New Vintage Red Yarrow reaches a final height of 26 to 28 inches.
As a sun-loving perennial, the New Vintage Red Yarrow is drought tolerant once established. Furthermore, it is deer and rabbit resistant and ideal for rural areas. Use New Vintage Red to expand a perennial border or cottage garden planting scheme. It also grows well in a container and makes a lovely cut flower. This yarrow is cold hardy and suitable for growing in zones 4 to 9.
New Vintage Red Yarrow Care
The New Vintage Red Yarrow wants as much sun as you can give it. It tolerates nearly all soils as long as they are free draining. Water well on planting and for the first growing season. Fertilizing is not generally needed. However, you can apply a balanced slow-release feed in the spring if the soil is poor.
Deadheading frequently will help promote more blooms throughout the summer. In late fall as the foliage dies back, cut all growth to a few inches above the ground. Divide in spring as required.
New Vintage Red Yarrow Spacing
When fully grown, the New Vintage Red Yarrow can grow to 26 to 28 inches tall and 10 to 12 inches wide. When planting en masse, you can space this perennial 10 to 14 inches apart.
