Violas are ubiquitous for spring and fall mixed plantings in containers or the garden bed. Penny™ Peach Jump UP has a more subtle contrast between the pale violet top petals and the peachy bottom or “cheeks”. The delicate coloring will blend well with a wide color range of Pansies, Petunias and spring bulbs.
Viola Penny™ Peach Jump Up is a classic filler for pots and in the garden bed. This variety tolerates heat longer in the summer than most types. When grown completely from pesticides and organically it is edible and can really elevate a salad of spring greens. The flavor is very mild, but the visual impact is incredible. Penny™ Peach is a herbaceous perennial that will return for many years of enjoyment.
Viola Penny™ Peach Jump Up Care
Perennial Violas are tolerant of full shade and full sun. That is what makes them so great for containers and hanging baskets. The soil can be anywhere from a little clay to sandy with a pH of acidic to alkaline. Penny™ Peach is a uniform bloomer that has great disease resistance, as well as being deer and rabbit resistant. Fertilizing is only needed when container-grown. A monthly diluted liquid feed will keep the blooms popping.
Cutting back these perennials on a regular basis will help to make room for new vigorous growth. There are two seasons of vigorous growth for Violas. The spring and in the late summer as the weather begins to cool. Cutting the flagging growth back when the summer begins to get hot will help Violas to rest until the fall. Consistent watering throughout the season is necessary and easily done with a soaker hose or drip irrigation system. Dividing of overgrown plants is best done in the fall after growth has finished. Dividing may not be needed more than every 4-5 years.
Viola Penny™ Peach Jump Up Spacing
Even though this Penny™ Peach is a perennial, it can be treated like anannual when planting. That means that plants can be placed quite close to each other. The mature height is 4-6 inches with a width of 6-8 inches. Planting can be a close as 6 inches on center.
