These fragrant, upright blue blooms upon a long stem are a valued feature of the Prelude Blue Japanese Catmint. Stem length provides for a diverse cut flower, a useful addition to bouquets and floral arrangements. Perennial in nature, these blooms begin in the spring and continue through summer. Subtle, but maintaining an upright blue pop of color, this perennial is a useful addition in landscapes, along borders and fencing.
The Prelude Blue Japanese Catmint is hardy in zones five through nine. This perennial typically grows densely upright. It is extremely friendly to the bees, butterflies, and hummingbirds. It is fragrant, and it makes a versatile addition to the garden that’s low maintenance, but can still be used in bouquets or as a colorful filler. This perennial is also pest and disease resistant, to add to its list of positive attributes.
Prelude Blue Japanese Catmint Plant Care
Prelude Blue Japanese Catmint prefers full sun. While it should be placed in full sun, it does prefer moist, well drained soil. This can be difficult to maintain if planted within a container. Extra attention should be paid to maintain the health of this blooming perennial if prolonged dry periods are observed, especially in a container, though it is mildly forgiving of a drought.
If repeat blooming is desired, this plant should be pruned back halfway through its blooming time. It can be pruned all the way back after the last freeze.
Prelude Blue Japanese Catmint Plant Spacing
This is a tall perennial. It can reach 28 to 36 inches in height, and should be spaced 24 to 30 inches apart. It will grow densely outward, but upright in nature.
