Prime Ark Freedom Blackberry (Rubus hybrid 'Freedom') is a thornless blackberry variety developed by the University of Arkansas. Plants produce medium to large, sweet and flavorful berries, ripening in July during the first year and again in fall. Beginning the second year, plants will also fruit in June. Its upright, clumping habit makes it ideal as an accent plant, along borders, as an informal hedge, or in mass plantings. This variety also attracts pollinators, including birds and butterflies, supporting a healthy garden ecosystem.
Prime Ark Freedom Blackberry is easy to grow and versatile, providing both ornamental structure and productive fruit in your landscape. Its thornless canes make harvesting safe and convenient.
Prime Ark Freedom Blackberry Care
Plant in slightly acidic, well-drained soil for best performance. Tip back the outermost inch of canes when they reach 12 inches and again at 30 inches to encourage branching, earlier fruit development, and increased yield. Fertilize yearly in early spring and water well to establish, then continue weekly watering.
Prime Ark Freedom Blackberry Growth & Spacing
Prime Ark Freedom Blackberry typically grows 4–6 feet tall and 3–4 feet wide. Space plants 3–4 feet apart within rows, with rows 7 feet apart to allow room for growth and ease of harvesting.
