Purple Diamond™ Loropetalum (Loropetalum chinense ‘Shang-hi’) is a semi-dwarf evergreen shrub prized for its striking purple foliage and vibrant pink blooms. Unlike many shrubs that fade seasonally, Purple Diamond provides year-round color, with its rich purple leaves adding drama to the landscape in every season.
In spring, clusters of vivid pink, fringe-like flowers create a stunning contrast against the foliage. Compact and versatile, it works beautifully as a foundation planting, an accent shrub, a colorful hedge, or in mass plantings for bold visual impact.
Purple Diamond™ Loropetalum Care
Plant in well-drained, acidic soil for best performance. Water regularly during the first growing season to help establish a deep root system, then water as needed during dry periods. Fertilize in spring with an acid-forming fertilizer after the flowering period to encourage strong growth and vibrant foliage. Pruning is rarely required, but light shaping may be done after the spring bloom if desired.
Purple Diamond™ Loropetalum Spacing
When used in shrub borders or mass plantings, space Purple Diamond Loropetalum 5 to 6 feet apart. To form a colorful informal hedge, plant 3.5 to 4 feet apart, measuring from the center of each plant. This spacing allows the shrubs to fill in while maintaining their natural, semi-dwarf habit.
