Lilacs sweeten the spring air each year, and Scentara Double Blue Lilac packs a fragrance punch. This lilac variety, Syringa hyacinthiflora, has been specially bred for superb fragrance and is one of the most fragrant varieties available. It's also resistant to most diseases and loaded with aromatic purple blossoms. The shrub's rich green heart-shaped leaves offset the pretty lavender-colored blooms. And Scentara Double Blue Lilac is an easy plant to care for; it resists most diseases and is deer resistant.

The aroma is enough to make anyone nearby stop and take it in, and the large cluster of cool purple blooms on Scentara Double Blue Lilac look bluish in the spring sun. This lilac is a must-have in spring landscapes for zones 2 through 8. Scentara Double Blue grows to a height and width of 6 to 8 feet. This makes the shrub a perfect backdrop for plants that bloom later in the season. You especially want to plant this upright lilac near a sidewalk, patio or entryway so you can enjoy the scent on spring days.

Scentara Double Blue Lilac Care

Plant Scentara Double Blue Lilac in nearly any soil that drains well. The shrub needs regular watering, especially for the first few years, but should not sit in soggy soil following heavy rain or snow. Plant it in full sun. Lilacs can take heat but need enough cool nights in winter to form blooms. Its leaves drop in winter but come back each spring. You don't have to prune lilacs, but if you want to shape your plant, prune right after it is done blooming in spring. The flowers form on the plant's old wood.

Scentara Double Blue Lilac Spacing

If you want a full border or hedge of Scentara Double Blue Lilac for abundant spring color and a wave of sweet fragrance, space the plants about 6 to 8 feet apart.

Interesting Fact(s) - Lilacs are known for the heat tolerance, but these actually need a minimum of 1,700 hours of temperatures below 45°F (7.2°C) in order to bloom.

We ordered two plants; one of them was in good condition when it arrived. Our lilac was alive when it arrived but had been badly jostled in shipping so many of the bottom leaves had fallen off. Plus the plant is very small for the $$ we paid. Beware, Plant Addicts has a strict time limit on reporting problems in shipping. I will not order from them again.

I am so excited to have this lilac! Now I have to get one for my son and daughter in law; they just bought their first home and there is literally nothing in their yard but one very pretty Japanese maple. I’ll be back for more! Thank you, Johanna
