Snow Pavement may be the easiest and most beautiful rose that you can grow. This rose is a variety of the native Rosa rugosa and naturally has the most pest and disease resistance of any Rose available. Snow Pavement has beautiful semi-double blooms that begin as a delicate, baby pink and fade to brilliant white as they age. The blooming and petals are so dense that when the spent blooms fall on they look like snow on the ground.
Snow Pavement Rose is very resistant to deer and rabbits, but is a great attractor of pollinator insects and birds. The hips ( berries) that form from the spent flowers provide high vitamin C and energy for birds through the winter months. Snow pavement will make a lovely low growing hedge along a driveway or sidewalk. The leathery, crinkled foliage and bristly stems also fit into a cottage garden scheme alongside other traditional favorites such as Foxglove, Shasta Daisy and Cosmos.
Snow Pavement Rose Care
Snow Pavement Rose will bloom best in full sun, but also tolerates shade early or late in the day. Well-drained, average texture soil with a neutral to alkaline pH is suitable. Watering well the first 2-3 years will help this rose to establish well and become more drought tolerant as it matures. Feeding Roses with a well balanced, slow release fertilizer formulated for roses is recommended once in the early spring as the new growth emerges.
Pruning is very easy with Snow Pavement. Early in the spring cutback any dead or dying branches to the ground. Suckers will sometimes pop up and are easily controlled by cutting out under the soil. Deadheading is not necessary during the summer. Mulching with leaves or compost over the winter will help to enrich and make the soil more moisture retentive in future seasons. Snow pavement does not need extra protection measures for winter in the colder hardiness zones. This Rose handles any cold and snow with ease.
Snow Pavement Rose Spacing
Snow Pavement has a very compact and mounding growth habit. The mature height and width tops out at 2-3 feet. Space this Rose at 2 feet on center when planting in a large group or part of an informal hedge.
