Don’t let the name fool you! The Storm Cloud Amsonia is one to remember. In the spring it produces dark stems with dusky green leaves with very unique almost silver veins. Clumps of periwinkle blue flowers blooms on top of the stems. This shrub is heat tolerant and resistant to deer.

Periwinkle blue, star shaped blooms appear on top of this mounded perennial. The foliage is olive green with silver veins. Blooms first appear in the late spring and will last until early summer. The Storm Cloud Amsonia is also native to North America. It grows to a garden height of up to thirty inches and up to forty-two inches wide. A beautiful addition to any landscape, common uses are border planting, mass planting, or as a focal point.

The Storm Cloud Amsonia is best grown in full sun or part shade. Soil should range from average to moist. It can tolerate all types of soil and requires a neutral Ph. Water needs for this plant are average. Pruning is not necessary. It should be noted that if the Storm Cloud Amsonia is planted into much shade it will produce a floppy appearance. If planted in shady areas trim to maintain a neat habit.
