Petunia Supertunia Blue Skies is an award-winning, top performer of a petunia! This vigorous, slightly mounding petunia is a prolific and continuous bloomer with medium to large sized blue flowers on gorgeous green foliage. It is one of the most durable petunia varieties. Blooming from planting until first frost this petunia packs a real punch. Supertunia Blue Skies is a short growing annual with a garden height of 6 – 12 inches and trailing up to 30 inches.

Petunia Supertunia Blue Skies function well as both fillers and spillers in containers. This petunia works equally well in both containers and hanging baskets where the flowering branches and shoots can cascade over the edge for a truly spectacular spiller plant. They are excellent landscape plants, covering a lot of ground and are best planted at the front of garden beds as an edging plant or groundcover. Other uses are for large combinations and as mass plantings in the landscape. They are heat and drought tolerant petunias and attract both butterflies and hummingbirds.

Supertunia Blue Skies Petunia Care

Supertunias are an easy care, low maintenance petunia. They are self-cleaning and do not require deadheading to maintain continuous blooms, but a light pruning after each bloom to encourage a new flush is recommended. With the vigorous growth habit of these petunias, more attention to water and nutrient demands is necessary especially of container-grown plants. Plant these petunias in full sun in well-drained soil. They prefer an acidic soil in the pH range of 5.5 to 6.5 and grow in hardiness zones 10-11. Supertunia are heavy feeders. Apply a two- to three-month controlled-release fertilizer at planting. For the best growth and flower production, fertilize these plants regularly. Water-soluble fertilizers are good for this purpose. In general, containers need to be fed more than landscape plants.

If your plant begins to look open or a bit tired, an allover trim back to 1/3 the plant can be beneficial. This annual can act as a tender perennial in mild winters, sometimes continuing to grow year-round. Plants and flowers are long lasting in planters.

Supertunia Blue Skies Petunia Spacing

Spacing in the landscape or containers should be 12 – 24 inches. When mass-planted in the landscape bed, it is best to plant the petunias on 18-inch centers.
