Aster novae-angliae ‘Vibrant Dome’, is a richly colored, tidy, clump-forming variety featuring 2”, deep-purple flowers with golden-yellow centers floating above deep-green, strap-like foliage. It is one of the most compact and most floriferous fall-blooming aster. As a late-season garden star, Vibrant Dome blooms well into October and is a perfect choice for a carefree profusion of late-season color in your rock gardens, container plantings, and perennial borders.
You’ll be amazed at how easy it is to grow! Vibrant Dome Aster takes cold and hot weather like a champ. Reaching 15-18” in height and up to 24” in spread, its dense and sturdy stems readily support the bright flowers that supply beneficial nectar to late-season pollinators. This perennial is grown in Hardiness Zones 3-8.
Vibrant Dome Aster Care
Plant Vibrant Dome Aster in rich soil that is well draining and kept moist. Asters grow best in places with full or partial sun, getting 6 to 8 hours of sunlight each day. The more sun it receives, the less leggy the plant grows. Provide ample space between each plant to allow for good air circulation to prevent powdery mildew. Vibrant Domes’ compact habit makes staking unnecessary. Divide Vibrant Dome Aster every few years. You can leave the dried seed heads in place throughout the winter for birds to enjoy a nutritious snack.
Vibrant Dome Aster requires an annual trimming in early spring as it wakes up from winter dormancy. Prune the entire plant close to the ground at the first sign of new growth emerging in spring. Pinch back the stems once or twice during spring and early summer to promote compact, symmetrical growth. Avoid pinching back after July to give your plant enough time to develop flower buds for fall.
Vibrant Dome Aster Spacing
Vibrant Dome Aster is perfect as a colorful, late-season attraction. They make quite a show when planted en masse; be sure to space each plant at least 18 inches on center so the foliage isn’t touching and each plant receives adequate airflow to prevent powdery mildew.
