Plant near trees or tall plants that will block direct sunlight and provide shade. This plant is easy to grow in any soil, but expect the best results from rich, well-draining, neutral, or slightly alkaline soil. Lenten Rose has medium water needs, although the plant will need somewhat more water during the first growing season.
