Growing Zones
The Wedding Party® Dark and Handsome Lenten Rose is an exciting plant to include in your landscape. This Helleborus hybrid is one of the first plants to appear in the spring, it is low maintenance, and the flowers are absolutely striking. Large, double blooms are 2.5 to 3 inches across. The black petals have a tinge of purple and surround bold yellow centers. The flowers bloom during the spring, but the beautiful green foliage sticks around for the rest of the growing season.
Plant this beauty in borders or create a lovely mass planting. This easy-care plant can thrive in a container where it takes on the filler role, and the blooms can be cut to display in a vase. The foliage is deer and rabbit resistant so that you can enjoy its good looks throughout the growing season. The Wedding Party® Dark and Handsome Lenten Rose will grow as a perennial in USDA zones 4 through 9.
Wedding Party® Dark and Handsome Lenten Rose Care
Lenten Rose prefers partial to full shade, so this plant can thrive and provide dramatic color in areas most plants simply cannot call home. Plant near trees or tall plants that will block direct sunlight and provide shade. This plant is easy to grow in any soil, but expect the best results from rich, well-draining, neutral, or slightly alkaline soil. Lenten Rose has medium water needs, although the plant will need somewhat more water during the first growing season.
Amend the soil when planting or top dress the soil for existing plants using organic compost or manure. This plant seldom needs fertilizer if grown in rich soil, but apply a balanced plant food throughout the growing season if the soil quality is low. Plant Hellebores in an area protected from high winds, which can damage the delicate foliage. Torn leaves can be removed as necessary.
Wedding Party® Dark and Handsome Lenten Rose Spacing
This perennial can reach 18 to 24 inches tall and spread out just as far. The plants can be spaced 18 to 24 inches apart from center to center for a dense planting. Feature in a large container for more flexible placement options.
