3 Months of Daffodils stretch the daffodil season from very early spring through the last weeks of spring. Narcissus spp. and hybrids in this 25-bulb collection include trumpet, large- and small-cupped, poeticus, split-corona, double, jonquilla, and tazetta types in yellow, white, and pink-toned combinations. Plants generally stand about 12 to 18 inches tall, with changing flower forms appearing in sequence. 

The varieties are intentionally mixed rather than individually labeled, creating a more natural progression of flower shapes, heights, and bloom times across the bed. Hardy in USDA zones 3-8, these daffodils perennialize readily in suitable soil and gradually expand clumps through offsets. Their long spring season makes the mixture well suited to woodland edges, perennial borders, cutting gardens, and broad roadside or walkway plantings. Deer and rabbits generally avoid narcissus because all parts of the plant contain toxic alkaloids.

Plant 3 Months of Daffodils Mixture Bulbs in fall, preferably 4 to 6 weeks before the ground freezes, placing the bulbs about 6 inches deep with their pointed ends facing upward. Position in full sun to partial shade, such as beneath deciduous trees with abundant spring light. Well-drained loam with a slightly acidic to neutral pH around 6.0 to 7.0 is preferred; loosen compacted clay before planting so winter moisture can drain away.

Give the bed one thorough watering after planting, then let rainfall handle most of the moisture until spring unless autumn is unusually dry. As foliage and flowers develop, water when the soil begins drying several inches below the surface. Allow conditions to become drier once leaves start yellowing and the bulbs move toward dormancy. Apply a bulb fertilizer according to label directions as growth emerges in spring, or use a fall application while roots are developing. 

Remove faded flowers as each variety finishes, but leave all green foliage standing until it yellows naturally and begins to collapse. Because the mixture contains early, midseason, and late types, cleanup should happen gradually in stages. When flowering declines in an older, crowded colony, lift and separate the bulbs during summer dormancy and replant the firm offsets at the proper depth. A light mulch layer can help moderate winter soil temperatures in colder parts of the growing range.

Space bulbs about 4 to 6 inches apart in garden beds, arranging them in loose groups of five to ten or a more naturalized effect. For containers, choose pots at least 10 to 12 inches deep with open drainage holes and a free-draining potting mix, placing bulbs somewhat closer for a fuller spring display. In zones 3-6, protect exposed containers in an unheated garage, shed, or similarly cold sheltered area during the harshest winter weather.

Jacob's ladder is a useful perennial partner for partially shaded plantings because its spring foliage develops around the daffodils and continues covering the area as bulb leaves begin to decline. Leucothoe works well along woodland edges, providing an evergreen shrub layer behind naturalized daffodil groups in sites with filtered light and consistent drainage. Snapdragons can extend color in containers after the earliest daffodils finish in cool spring conditions and well-drained soil.
