Hibiscus are showy plants with beautiful glossy green foliage and even more striking flowers. The Acapulco Gold Tropical Hibiscus is a stunner. The reddish-orange flowers feature ruffled petals edged in bright, sunny yellow. Slight streaks of white appear near the base of the petal before transitioning into a dark red eye. The showy flowers are 7- to 9-inches across, and this plant will continue to bloom all summer.
This tropical Hibiscus has an upright growth habit and is a vigorous grower that can reach 6 feet tall. Feature the Acapulco Gold Tropical Hibiscus in borders, containers, or as a specimen planting. When used in a container, this plant takes on the role of a thriller. The large blooms attract bees, butterflies, and hummingbirds.
Acapulco Gold Tropical Hibiscus Care
Water tropical Hibiscus when the top few inches of the soil feel slightly damp. This plant prefers moist conditions, but the soil should still allow water to drain. The soil should also be rich and somewhat acidic with a 6.5 to 6.8 pH. Plant in full to partial sun because the Acapulco Gold Tropical Hibiscus needs at least 4 to 6 hours of sunlight to thrive. Feed once a week using a balanced, water-soluble fertilizer.
The Acapulco Gold Tropical Hibiscus can live outdoors year-round in very warm climates, but this plant is an annual in most regions. Tropical Hibiscus can spend the winter inside as a houseplant, but it can be demanding. Place in a spot that receives bright sunlight and water when the soil is slightly damp. Hibiscus requires increased humidity, and you may want to consider using a humidifier or a pebble tray with water to counteract dry winter weather.
Acapulco Gold Tropical Hibiscus Spacing
This plant will grow 3 to 6 feet wide and tall. Hibiscus plants are more likely to grow large in warm climates, and they may not reach their full height when grown in more northern regions. Space plants 3 to 6 feet apart from center to center when grown in the ground or use a large container for a single plant.
