Mature Height

Mature Spread
An early summer blooming perennial bulb that starts out with a thick growth of leaves that can be planted as a ground cover or at the front of a sunny to partly sunny mixed border bed. This ornamental member of the onion family would also be interesting planted in a container. Ornamental Alliums are easy to grow, and all varieties grow well together. The interesting blooms look great fresh or dried and make for a stunning addition to any flower arrangement.
Deer will pass by Alliums in favor of more tender foliage. Ornamental Alliums are free of most pests and diseases. This Allium is a great attractor of pollinators, while being extremely low maintenance. The flower heads can be left on the plant into the Fall and Winter to provide an interesting form as well as seed for birds and other wildlife.
Allium Karataviense Care
These bulbs require virtually no maintenance. A free draining, average soil will keep Ornamental onions growing year after year. Deadheading after blooming is not usually required, since the flowers are even more interesting after they set seed and dry. Alliums rarely require little extra fertilizer and tolerate anything but the most acidic soil.
Allium Karataviense Spacing
The spacing for these lovely Alliums is quite close at around 6-8 inches apart. They are slow to naturalize but are extremely easy to divide when the time comes to thin them out. A light layer of mulch in the Northern growing zones will ensure that the Alliums stay happy through the Winter.
