Pelargonium Americana Salmon (Pelargonium zonale geranium) is an evergreen, tender perennial with large semi-double flowers of intense salmon color and scalloped green foliage with bronzy ends. It has a vigorous mounding habit growing 12 – 16 inches in height by a width of 14 – 18 inches, making it a perfect addition to both landscape beds and containers alike. Americana® Salmon blooms on medium sized plants in late spring through the first frost with intense, gorgeous color on a well-branched plant structure. These large flower clusters are truly some of the most beautiful blooms available today.
Pelargonium Americana Salomon is a drought tolerant annual, once established and has been shown to withstand wind, rain and heat better than other traditional geraniums. Large salmon flower heads are long lasting and will continue to bloom if deadheaded regularly. Use as a thriller or filler in combination container plantings or utilize in beds as borders, or in mass plantings in the landscape.
Americana Salmon Zonal Geranium Care
Americana Salomon will perform best in fertile, well drained, and neutral to alkaline soils with full to partial sunlight exposure. The maximum bloom performance can be achieved in full sun, average water and regular deadheading. Feed regularly with a balanced slow-release fertilizer in landscape beds or a liquid fertilizer every 2-4 weeks for container plantings. This extra work makes Americana Salomon a moderate maintenance plant. These geraniums are drought and heat tolerant once established.
Grown as an herbaceous annual in zones 9-11, Americana Salomon can be overwintered indoors. Place in a bright area and reduce watering significantly. Likely, will not bloom indoors. Gradually reintroduce outdoors in early spring. Plants grown in containers on patios should get full sun for best performance and for maximum bloom yields.
Americana Salmon Zonal Geranium Spacing
Plant 12 – 15 inches apart in containers. For garden beds and grown in mass, plants should be spaced approximately 14 - 16 inches apart. When grown in mass or used as a bedding plant, individual plants should be spaced approximately 15 inches apart.
