This new geranium variety is available beginning in 2021. Pelargonium Americana Violet Ice (Pelargonium zonale) produces gorgeous violet-hued, round clusters of flowers. It grows in an upright habit to a high of 14 to 16 inches with a 14 to 16-inch spread. Plant it in part to full sun conditions for the results and prolific blooms.

Pelargonium Americana Violet Ice produces flowers from spring to your first hard autumn frost. Use it as a border plant in an annual or mixed garden or a container garden. It’s medium height and large blossoms make it a great choice for the thriller spot in a container garden.

Americana Violet Ice Zonal Geranium Care

Plant Pelargonium Americana Violet Ice in fertile, well-drained garden soils. It is drought tolerant once established. If using the plant in a container, make sure the pot has a drainage hole to avoid water logging its roots. Deadhead this geranium to prolong its flowering period and to encourage more blooms. Fertilize container gardens monthly with a balanced blend as directed on the package. Zonal geraniums are heat tolerant.

This plant is typically grown as an annual, but it is hardy in zones 9 to 11. It may survive indoors for use as a houseplant in full sun conditions. With proper care, it can live for many years indoors.

Americana Violet Ice Zonal Geranium Spacing

Space individual plants 14 to 16 inches apart, center on center, in your garden. They may be spaced 6 to 8 inches apart from each other and other plants in a container. The violet flowers will look great in groups or paired with bright colors or pastels.
