Apple Orchard Trees (4-Pack) turns one planting into a full backyard tasting flight, with Gala, Fuji, Granny Smith, and Honeycrisp all working together for better pollination and a longer apple season. These Malus domestica varieties cover the range from mellow-sweet Gala to crisp Fuji, tart green Granny Smith, and juicy sweet-tart Honeycrisp, so the harvest works for fresh eating, pies, sauces, cider, freezing, and storage. Plants typically mature around 10 to 20 feet tall and 8 to 10 feet wide, making them useful for backyard orchards, edible landscapes, sunny borders, and family gardens. This is a fantastic pack for new fruit growers because the pollination planning is already handled.
Apple Orchard Trees (4-Pack) Care
Plant Apple Orchard Trees (4-Pack) in full sun, with at least 6 hours of direct light each day, in fertile, well-drained loamy soil with a slightly acidic to neutral pH around 6.0 to 7.0. Dig each hole as deep as the root ball and about twice as wide, keeping the graft union above the soil line. Backfill with native soil improved with compost. Space trees 8 to 15 feet apart based on their mature size, and keep them within about 50 to 100 feet of each other so bees can move pollen between compatible varieties.
Prune during winter dormancy to remove dead, damaged, crowded, or strongly upright shoots. Maintain an airy structure around a central leader or modified leader. Thin fruit clusters to one apple every 6–8" in early summer to improve fruit size and reduce limb stress.
Growing Apple Orchard Trees (4-Pack)
Apple trees often begin producing in about 2 to 5 years, depending on growing conditions. This pack supports cross-pollination because Fuji pairs well with Gala, Granny Smith, and Honeycrisp, and Granny Smith also benefits from nearby apple varieties that bloom at the same time. Bees do the cross-pollination, so keep blossoms chemical-free during bloom. Gala typically ripens late August to early September, Honeycrisp ripens early to mid-September, Fuji is ready mid-September through October, and Granny Smith falls in late October.
Pick apples when color, flavor, and seed color have developed, then refrigerate or store sound fruit in a cool, humid place. Honeycrisp is especially known for strong refrigerated storage life.
Growing Apple Orchard Trees (4-Pack) in Containers
Use large containers only temporarily, choosing pots at least 20 to 25 gallons with wide bases and open drainage holes. Fill with a well-drained potting mix and place the trees in full sun. Keep compatible varieties close enough for pollinating insects to visit both during bloom. Repot or root-prune every 2 to 3 years in early spring, refreshing tired potting mix and checking that the graft union stays above the soil surface.
Watering Apple Orchard Trees (4-Pack)
Water deeply once or twice per week during the first growing season, keeping the root zone evenly moist but not soggy. Established trees need steady moisture during fruit sizing; leaf curl, early fruit drop, or cracked apples after a dry spell can signal uneven watering.
Feeding Apple Orchard Trees (4-Pack)
Feed in early spring with a balanced fruit tree fertilizer or compost before new growth begins. Avoid heavy nitrogen after early summer, since too much leafy growth can reduce fruiting, increase pruning, and leave tender growth less prepared for winter.
