Aromagica® Purple Heliotrope (Heliotropium arborescens 'INHELAROPU') offers clusters of rich purple flower heads, releasing a sweet scent throughout the warmer months. Plants typically grow about 12 to 18 inches tall, maintaining a tidy mounded shape that suits both garden beds and patio containers. We have observed its head-turning color remains consistent, even under summer conditions. This variety excels by combining fragrant blooms with a manageable size and appealing foliage.
Originating in South America, this Heliotrope demonstrates moderate drought tolerance once roots are established. Many gardeners note its deer resistance and general resistance to pests. Use it as a border accent, group several together for a fragrant drift, or keep it in containers near seating areas to enjoy the aroma. It also adapts to erosion control settings in warmer regions, offering a pop of purple among greenery.
Aromagica® Purple Heliotrope Care
Choose well-draining soil, and plant in full sun to partial shade, depending on local temperatures. Aromagica® Purple Heliotrope prefers a slightly acidic to neutral soil pH. Water regularly during the first few weeks, then adjust to a moderate schedule once the plant anchors itself, although some extra moisture during prolonged heat helps maintain its appearance. A balanced, water-soluble fertilizer every few weeks supports continued growth.
Deadheading spent flower clusters prolongs the display, though heavy pruning is seldom required. Some gardeners shear back any leggy portions if the plant outgrows its space, while others simply remove damaged stems as needed. In colder climates, treat this heliotrope as an annual or overwinter containerized specimens indoors by reducing watering and sheltering them from frost. We recommend checking container drainage regularly to prevent waterlogged roots during winter storage.
Aromagica® Purple Heliotrope Spacing
For groundcover or mass groupings, space each heliotrope about 12 to 15 inches apart. A single specimen in a mixed border needs a similar radius on all sides to allow for healthy air circulation. Containers should measure at least 10 inches wide for new transplants, with a larger pot advisable if you plan on pairing this plant with companion varieties or letting it grow larger over the season.
