This mouthwatering rosemary plant is perfect for using in sizzling summer barbecues or indoor oven roasting. Its fragrant, woody flavor is reminiscent of pepper and lemon and will have you craving its piney tang all year long. Not only can you use the evergreen foliage to season and flavor almost anything, but the firm, straight stems are perfect for skewering and will imbue your meals with flavor from the inside out. In addition, edible blue flowers will pepper the foliage and add a layer of flavor and color to your landscape and dish! This variety is also straightforward to care for, deer resistant, and drought tolerant!
Barbeque Rosemary Plant Care
Plant this evergreen shrub during the spring in full sun with plenty of well-draining, loose-textured soil with an average to slightly acidic pH. Space plants 2 feet apart to account for its spread of 2-3 feet. Reaching 4-6 feet high, trim as needed to keep it to size; otherwise, pruning should not be necessary.
Growing Barbeque Rosemary Plant
Growing on average 12 to 16 inches in a season, this plant is a rapid grower! Rosemary seed germination rates are meager at just 30%, and many gardeners grow rosemary by propagating a cutting, or dividing a preexisting plant. If growing from seed, start them indoors several weeks before the first frost in a container with a well-draining potting mix. Let the seeds germinate for 2 to 4 weeks underneath clear plastic wrap in direct sunlight. Spray your seeds with water daily or multiple times daily, keeping them moist but not overly wet.
If grown this rosemary in a container, choose a pot at least 12 inches in diameter. Use a well-draining potting soil rich with peat moss or other organic amendments. Water only when the soil is dry; check by poking the soil up to an inch with your finger to see if it is moist. Potted rosemary can live outside during the summer but should be placed indoors during colder months near a sunny window.
Watering Barbeque Rosemary Plant
Water Barbeque Rosemary deeply after planting to encourage a strong and healthy root system. After establishment, water your rosemary only during extended periods of hot, dry weather.
Feeding Barbeque Rosemary Plant
Once in the spring, feed with a light fertilizer containing a 10-10-10 ratio of N-P-K.
