Purple-black throats, sun-kissed honey tones, and true scarlet petals mingle all summer in Beach Blanket Bingo. This ready-made trio contains Superbells Grape Punch (Calibrachoa hybrid), Supertunia Honey (Petunia hybrid), and Supertunia Really Red (Petunia hybrid). Each 4.5-inch starter quickly forms a rounded cushion that spills two feet over pot rims, then covers itself with one-inch blooms from late spring until the first hard frost. Petal fragrance is light yet sweet enough to draw passing pollinators, and the shifting sunset shades pair effortlessly with coastal décor, poolside furniture, or cottage borders.
All three components shrug off heat, rebound after rain, and require no deadheading, making this combination a smart pick for busy gardeners. The mounded-trailing habit fills hanging baskets, window boxes, and border edges without gaps. Calibrachoa’s drought tolerance balances petunia’s heavier drink, so the mix stays lush even in high-summer dry spells. Use Beach Blanket Bingo to bridge color between larger shrubs, brighten patio planters, or weave through rock gardens where soil drains fast.
Beach Blanket Bingo Combination Care
Plant in a coarse, peat-based mix and situate where at least six hours of direct sun reach the foliage; morning exposure plus bright afternoon shade also works in hot interiors. Water thoroughly, then let the top inch of soil dry before repeating—containers may need daily attention during extreme heat, while raised beds often suffice with twice-weekly irrigation. Feed every other week with a balanced water-soluble fertilizer to sustain continuous bud formation. If stems appear tired in midsummer, shear the planting by one-third and follow with fertilizer to spark new branching and flowers.
Treat the combo as an annual outside USDA Zones 10–11. In frost-free regions it can overwinter and resume bloom with minimal cutback; elsewhere, baskets can be moved indoors to a bright sunroom for an extra month of color. Flowers persist until temperatures dip below 40 °F, and foliage remains tidy until the season ends, whether in pots or in the ground.
Beach Blanket Bingo Combination Spacing
For a 12-inch hanging basket, alternate two Grape Punch, one Honey, and one Really Red equidistantly around the rim; use a container at least ten inches deep with ample drainage holes. Single plants thrive in patio pots as small as eight inches, but for a fuller display choose a 12-inch planter and allow stems to trail freely. In garden beds, space plants on 14-inch centers—mounds will merge by mid-July to create a seamless carpet.
