Impatiens bring loads of bright color and cheer to a dark or shady area. The Beacon® Bright Red Bedding Impatiens are a mounding plant dotted with bright red flowers that will be on full display throughout the spring, summer, and fall. This plant has high water needs, especially when grown in a container, but it otherwise is low maintenance. The green foliage provides a nice contrast to the bright blooms, and while the flowers are small, the plant can grow rather large.

Impatiens are native to the tropics of Asia, where they grow under the canopy and receive filtered sunlight. This plant is known for brilliant blooms and low light requirements, but Impatiens have so much more to offer. The plant is heat-tolerant, so it can easily handle hot summer weather, and it is also disease-resistant for added peace of mind. The Beacon® Bright Red Bedding Impatiens make an excellent addition to borders, containers, and landscape planting. This plant is absolutely beautiful and will leave an impression when used as mass planting ground cover.

Beacon® Bright Red Bedding Impatiens Plant Care

Impatiens are a great shade plant and can brighten up a dark area under trees or cast in shadows. This plant is a perennial in USDA zones 10 and 11 and is grown as an annual in other zones. The ideal spot will have part shade and receive 4 to 6 hours of sunlight each day. Soil that retains moisture and has a pH of 5.5 to 6.5 is necessary to support healthy plants. Impatiens like consistent water and the soil should not be allowed to dry out—water when the top layer of soil is still slightly damp. It is best to water more deeply during a heatwave to keep the plants hydrated.

Impatiens are not fussy, and as long as they stay consistently damp, the plants generally do not need much care. Deadheading or removing spent flowers is unnecessary, and the plants typically do not need to be pruned. If the plant starts to look overgrown or outgrows the space, it can be trimmed back.

Beacon® Bright Red Bedding Impatiens Plant Spacing

As a mounded plant, the Beacon® Bright Red Bedding Impatiens will grow 10 to 15 inches tall and spread out over 12 to 14 inches. Space the plants 8 to 10 inches during planting, so they fill in without competing. Plant in a container to add a vibrant splash of red to a patio or porch, and feature 2 to 3 plants in a 12-inch pot.
