Picture-perfect cherries, right from your backyard. Bing Cherry Tree delivers large, sweet, deep red fruit on a handsome, upright tree that doubles as spring eye candy with clouds of white blossoms. It’s a classic for a reason: outstanding flavor, reliable production, and a tidy form that fits beautifully into an edible landscape.

Expect an early summer harvest with that signature Bing snap and juice. Use it as a standout specimen, mix it into a mini orchard, or train it along a fence on dwarf rootstock for small spaces. Plant two compatible varieties for the best yields.

Bing Cherry Tree Care

Give your tree full sun, 6 to 8+ hours daily. Plant in well-drained soil with a pH of 6.0 to 7.0; amend heavy clay to improve drainage and avoid low, wet spots. Water deeply the first two growing seasons, about once per week, and then during dry spells (every 10 to 14 days).

Mulch 2 to 3 inches deep, keeping mulch a few inches away from the trunk. Feed in early spring with a balanced, slow-release fruit-tree fertilizer. Prune in late winter to an open center or central leader, removing crossing branches and keeping the canopy light and airy.

Bing is not self-fruitful; plant with a compatible pollinizer such as Stella, Rainier, or Lapins for good crops. Hardy in Zones 5 to 8; protect blossoms from late frosts when possible and net fruit if birds are persistent.

Bing Cherry Tree Spacing

For a specimen on standard or semi-dwarf roots, allow 18 to 25 feet of space from other trees. In an orchard row, space 18 to 20 feet on center (10 to 12 feet for dwarf forms). Keep 10 to 15 feet from buildings, paved areas, and septic lines.

For containers, choose a dwarf tree and a pot 20 to 24 inches wide with large drainage holes; refresh the top few inches of soil annually and up-pot as needed. Train young branches with light staking or spreaders to set wide crotch angles for strength.

Why Grow Bing Cherry Tree?

  • Sweet, dessert-quality fruit with rich flavor and firm bite
  • Showy spring bloom and a clean, upright habit that looks great year-round
  • Proven producer with compatible pollinizer, delivering generous early summer harvests
  • Versatile in landscapes and small orchards; suitable for large containers on dwarf rootstock

Take home the cherry everyone asks for and enjoy bowls of glossy, sweet fruit from your own tree. Plant one with a pollinizer this season and be set for summers of easy, homegrown treats.
