‘Black Eyed Angels’ Hybrid Bee Delphinium is a celebrated summer-blooming perennial known for its stately cloud of white flowers held on tall, sturdy spikes. Large white blossoms have contrasting, pollen-filled, black-center anthers, attracting plenty of hummingbirds and butterflies. They look delicate, but this variety is bred to stand up to heat and humidity while looking fresh all season long.
Easy to care for and thriving in well-draining soil, Black Eyed Angels Hybrid Bee Delphiniums love the sun! Their sturdy stems easily support their towering height of 3-5 ft tall with up to a 24” spread. They grow in Hardiness Zones 3-9, making them quite cold tolerant. They have an excellent strong form and are deer and rabbit resistant. Plenty of beneficial pollinators enjoy their lovely white flowers, so bring these tall, white, angelic flowers indoors to enjoy for yourself in cut-flower arrangements.
Black Eyed Angels Hybrid Bee Delphinium Care
Find a location in your landscape that receives 6 - 8 hours of sunlight per day. Delphiniums love the sun and require plenty of natural sunlight to support blooming and a balanced structure. Plant Black Eyed Angels Hybrid Bee Delphiniums in well-draining, fertile soil that is slightly alkaline in pH (between 6.5 - 7.5). Aim to keep the soil evenly moist but not soggy, particularly in the heat of summer.
Deadhead spent flowers to encourage continual blooming, which also prevents the plants from setting seed. Black Eyed Angels Hybrid Bee Delphiniums benefit from a monthly fertilization application during their growing season. Apply a balanced 10-10-10 water-soluble fertilizer monthly to keep plants performing their best. Cut plants close to the ground during late fall, and remove dried foliage to help prevent disease. Put a layer of organic mulch over the roots before the first frost to help protect them from harsh winter weather.
Black Eyed Angels Hybrid Bee Delphinium Spacing
Black Eyed Angels Hybrid Bee Delphiniums tower in the garden, so find a location that allows for their mature 5 ft height and 2 ft spread to be in clear view. Allow about 20 inches between each Delphinium if planting in groups.
