Feature
Hoyas or Wax Plants have a dedicated following and for a good reason. The easy-care Black Margin Hoya or Hoya parasitica is a stunning plant. Oval leaves come to a point and feature a glossy-green, textured appearance with white variegation. Each leaf is edged in black for an unexpected pop of color. The broad leaves grow on thin stems that can trail or reach and climb with the use of a trellis or support.
Best Locations For Growing Black Margin Hoya
Hoyas can grow in any area of a home as long as it is warm and sunny. Average humidity is ideal, but this plant can handle dampness fluctuations. Like other cultivars, the Black Margin Hoya likes to be left alone. While it can be tempting to touch the waxy leaves and inspect the unique colors, resist the urge. Position the plant on a hanger or shelf where it can be admired but not as easily accessed.
Black Margin Hoya Sunlight Requirements
The sun-loving Hoya needs bright indirect light. The Black Margin Hoya is not a fast grower, so increased light helps this plant to maintain its foliage and push out new growth. Direct light can burn the foliage, so place the Hoya back a couple of feet from a south-facing window or hang sheer curtains to diffuse the sunlight.
Black Margin Hoya Care
The Black Margin Hoya is completely content to stay in the same pot for years. The roots are slow growing, and Hoyas like cozy conditions, so being root bound is not a problem. Root-bound plants are more likely to bloom, so waiting to repot may result in tiny, white flowers.
Watering Black Margin Hoya
Hoyas are in the succulent family, which is apparent when observing their water needs. Let the soil completely dry out between water sessions. Soggy conditions are perhaps the worst thing to happen to a Hoya. When it is time to water, drench the soil until the excess liquid drains through the container.
Feeding Black Margin Hoya
Fertilize the Back Margin Hoya every two to four weeks during the spring and summer when the plant is actively growing. Use a balanced, water-soluble plant food. Since Hoyas are not fond of being repotted, the soil will likely lose nutrition over time; periodic fertilizing keeps the plant growing and healthy.
