ZZ Plant is a popular plant to dress up the office or home. Black Raven has glossy foliage that emerges a brilliant green and then ages to a deep, almost black leaf. The broad leaves of Zamioculcas zamiifolia, as it's scientifically named, are excellent at cleaning the air and keeping office spaces healthier. Black Raven ZZ Plant is native to Zanzibar and Tanzania in Eastern Africa and is a desert succulent.

Best Locations For Growing Black Raven ZZ Plant

Any room of the house or office will support good growth for ZZ Plant. Humidity or light levels do not need to be high. Growing Black Raven for the summer will encourage vigorous growth. Ensure to bring the plant indoors well before nighttime temperatures fall to 50 degrees F. All parts of the ZZ plant are poisonous and should not be grown near pets or children.

Black Raven ZZ Plant Sunlight Requirements

ZZ Plants can grow in virtually any light level. Indirect bright light will provide the most vigorous growth, while low light levels will sustain current growth. Leggy growth is a result of light levels being too low. Temporarily move the plant to a brighter spot that is not in direct sun or use a grow light to keep the growth dense and bushy.

Black Raven ZZ Plant Care

ZZ Plant can stand a high level of neglect, making it a great first plant. The fleshy rhizomes store water to help the plant during drought conditions. ZZ Plant will grow happily with average humidity and normal room temperatures. Make sure Black Raven is not near an air conditioning unit or an area with cold drafts, like next to doors or windows in the winter. Temperatures below 45 F will kill this plant.

Watering Black Raven ZZ Plant

ZZ Plant is a type of succulent and needs little watering, generally once every two weeks. The soil can be left to dry completely in between waterings. Overwatering is easy to do, especially if the plant is grown in low light. Water until liquid runs out of the drainage holes. Discard any remaining water in the saucer after 10-15 minutes. The roots will not tolerate sitting in water very long.

Feeding Black Raven ZZ Plant

ZZ Plants do not require regular fertilizing and will happily grow with a feeding every 6 months or so. Use a liquid fertilizer formulated for succulents and dilute it to half of the manufacturer's prescribed amount.
