The glaucous-blue shade of Blue Atoll Echeveria is a lovely contrast to other shades of green. This succulent produces spade-shaped leaves that form perfectly symmetrical rosettes. Echeveria is in the Crassula family, which includes the Jade Plant and Aloes that can live indoors or outdoors in warm regions. These plants are hardy desert dwellers that are perfect for first-time houseplant growers. Blue Atoll is often sold under the name Coolvue.
Best Locations For Growing Blue Atoll Echeveria
Blue Atoll Echeveria will brighten up a sunny windowsill or shelf when grown singly in a pot or planted with other succulents in a mixed container. The minimalist shapes of Echeveria make a bold statement wherever they are placed. This succulent is non-toxic and does not have spines or thorns like other desert plants, making them more child and pet friendly.
Blue Atoll Echeveria Sunlight Requirements
Most succulents require direct sun. The bright light helps the plants remain compact without developing a trunk. Make sure to turn the pots weekly to ensure the plant grows symmetrically. Blue Atoll may produce flower stems after it has matured. The flowers typically appear in the spring and are a lovely sunset color that contrasts with the blue of the foliage.
Blue Atoll Echeveria Care
Always plant Echeveria in fast-draining soil that has plenty of sand and perlite. A commercial cactus and succulent mix is usually fine. Look for brands that use coconut coir or other soil-free blends. Prune off any dead or dying leaves quickly, which can attract pests and diseases. Repot the Echeveria when it has outgrown the pot. These plants make plantlets constantly throughout the year and can be separated at any time for repotting.
Watering Blue Atoll Echeveria
Blue Atoll needs to dry out completely between waterings; the soil can be 70-80% dry. Depending on the humidity where it is growing, Echeveria will need watering once a week during the summer and possibly as little as every 2-3 weeks in the winter. Extra humidity is rarely required for Echeverias growing indoors. They are desert plants and thrive on lower humidity levels than those of most home.
Feeding Blue Atoll Echeveria
Supplemental fertilizing is not necessary for Blue Atoll. In its native area of Central America, it thrives in nutrient-poor, sandy soil. Over-fertilizing will cause leggy growth and thin leaves that are not drought tolerant.
