Feature
Phlebodium aureum, or Blue Star Fern, is native to the tropical rainforests of South America. It has elongated, blue-green fronds that curl and turn in delightful ways. When the plant is young, the new fronds are irregular in size and shape, but as it matures, the leaf structure becomes more consistent. Blue Star Fern is fairly undemanding and adds unique structure, texture, and color to your indoor houseplant collection.
Best Locations For Growing Fern 'Blue Star'
Blue Star Fern enjoys high humidity and warm temperatures, so place it in an environment like a bathroom or kitchen with extra moisture in the air. Setting it near an east or west-facing window is ideal, away from any cold drafts.
Fern 'Blue Star' Sunlight Requirements
Provide a location where Blue Star Fern will receive medium dappled light; avoid placing it in direct sunlight, which can scorch the fronds. Often when we think of ferns, we assume shade loving, but this variety enjoys bright indirect light.
Fern 'Blue Star' Care
Because of its twisty-turny growth habit, Blue Star Fern should be turned occasionally to help promote full, even growth.
Watering Fern 'Blue Star'
Water Blue Star using room-temperature water, and keep the soil evenly moist at all times, but not soggy. Do not allow the soil to dry out completely. Instead of watering on a schedule, only water when the plant needs it. This fern enjoys regular misting or a position next to a humidifier.
Feeding Fern 'Blue Star'
Blue Star Fern doesn’t need continual fertilization, but you can use a well-balanced liquid houseplant fertilizer occasionally; apply this during the spring and summer months.
